PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION:

As a member of the Accounting team, this position will have responsibilities in monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statement close.  Responsible for accounting activities including but not limited to  accruals of R&D and G&A expense, revenue and billing activities, financial statement consolidation, fixed assets, project allocation of labor and other expense, account reconciliations and analysis.

The senior accountant uses professional concepts in accordance with company objectives to solve complex problems in creative and effective ways.  This position will work on complex problems in which analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors.

This level exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

This level may determine methods and procedures on new assignments and may provide guidance to lower level personnel.  

 

 MAJOR DUTIES OF POSITION:

  • Financial statement close:

            o        Prepare journal entries with appropriate backup/documentation.

            o        Prepare account reconciliations and analysis for both routine and complex          

                        account balances (cash/investments, prepaid assets, fixed assets, accruals,

                        deferred revenue, equity).

            o        Monitor and provide reporting of cash activities.

            o        Maintain monthly journal entry and reconciliation binders with appropriate backup

                        and approvals.

            o        Assist with financial statement preparation and consolidation, including foreign

                        currency conversions and elimination entries.

            o        Assist with invoice preparation as needed.

  • Other accounting related responsibilities:

             o        Monitor fixed assets to ensure compliance with asset capitalization/disposal

                        guidelines.

             o        Prepare project allocations.

             o        Assist with SOX 404 compliance testing of key controls.

             o        Assist with Audit/Tax schedule preparation.

             o        Assist with NIH grant administration and accounting.

             o        Assist Accounting Senior Manager and External Reporting Senior Manager with

                        ad hoc projects.

             o        Work with external auditors and consultants during testing.

             o        Other accounting/finance duties and projects as assigned

  KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • BA/BS in business, accounting or related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant accounting experience specifically in a General Ledger capacity.
  • Technical proficiency (or have the potential to become proficient) in MAS-90 or similar mid-range accounting software package, FRx, and Fixed Asset Software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency in Excel and Word.
